A leader in the glass packaging market in Turkey and Russia, Şişecam also ranks among the top five producers in Europe and worldwide. Şişecam boasts a production capacity of 2.6 million tons/year at 10 production facilities spanning four countries – Turkey, Georgia, Russia and Ukraine – in glass packaging. Şişecam meets glass packaging needs for a range of industries, including food, beverages, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, with a broad palette of colors and volumes ranging from 6 cc to 15000 cc.
In 1935, Şişecam first launched glass packaging operations by producing jars at Beykoz Paşabahçe plant. As a result of the rapidly developing beverage industry and the growing need for bottles in the pharmaceuticals sector, Şişecam commissioned its first plant dedicated to glass packaging in 1969 in Topkapı, Istanbul. In 1976, Şişecam expanded its capacity with the Mersin plant where NNPB production started to be used – an important milestone in glass packaging production technology. Şişecam added the Bursa Yenişehir and Eskişehir plants to its portfolio in Turkey in 2006 and 2013, respectively. These additions bolstered Şişecam’s leadership position in the glass packaging industry.
In 1997, Şişecam recorded its first foreign investment in glass packaging by acquiring the Mina plant in Georgia. This overseas investment was followed by the Gorokhovets plant in 2002; the Pokrovsky plant in 2004; the Ufa plant in 2005; the Kirishi plant in 2008; and the Kuban plant in 2009 in order to tap into the opportunities offered by the dynamic Russian market. In 2011, Şişecam incorporated an existing glass packaging facility in Merefa, Ukraine.
Currently, Şişecam has a total glass packaging production capacity of 2.6 million tons/year and continues to operate a total of three production facilities in Turkey, five in Russia, one in Ukraine and one in Georgia.
